This weekend is chock full of holiday music traditions that are perfect ways to celebrate the season with friends, including the Songwriters’ Solstice, Andy Gabbard’s Holiday Special, A Country Christmas, and of course Holidayton.

Friday December 22nd
A cozy night is in store at the Songwriter’s Solstice at Ghostlight Coffee on Friday evening, from 6:30pm – 9:30pm. An early night to enjoy original live music from 10 area songwriters, along with yummy hot drinks, and all to benefit Foodbank Dayton. Feel free to bring donations too!

Get into the holiday spirit at Andy Gabbard‘s Holiday Special at Yellow Cab Tavern. It’s an ultra cool party that you won’t want to miss, featuring Tyler Randall (of Dawg Yawp), Randy Cornett, Luke Tandy, and of course, Andy Gabbard. It’s gonna be a fun night – so don’t miss out! Tickets are $5. Doors 8pm.
Blues fans, head over to see the Doug Hart Band at Trolley Stop. The band incorporates free form, yet controlled versions of many blues standards along with the blending of Doug’s blues and rock influences to form creative original compositions. Music starts at 9:30pm. $5 admission. 21+
Rachel Litteral and the Abstracts perform a special holiday set at Hannah’s, located downtown on Ludlow. They’ve invited special guests Kyleen Downes, Eric Henry, and Miss Lissa to join them, which is quite the lovely crew! No Cover. 21+
Bluegrass is on the bill at Peach’s Grill in Yellow Springs. Beloved local band Sawgrass is performing, starting around 9:30pm. Always a fun night with this talented crew! (PS… you can also catch Sawgrass Saturday night at Tumbleweed Connection too! 2 chances in one weekend!)
Saturday December 23rd
Certainly the pinnacle event of the weekend is the 15th annual Holidayton concert at Blind Bob’s. It’s a spectacular line up, with a truly eclectic mix of the best local bands (check out the list below! wow!). As with years prior, there will be two stages of performances alternating throughout the evening, so it’s non-stop rock all night long. 8pm and 21+.
Are you a musician or have a talented friend in town for the holidays? Looking for something to do with the whole family? Check out the Weekly All Ages Blues Sesh at Hannah’s. This jam session is hosted by the Troubled Waters Band on Saturdays from 5 – 8pm. Hannah’s owner encourages “If you’re a musician – bring your instrument. If you’re a singer – bring your voice. If you’re a fan – bring yourself.” No cover.
W.O. Wright’s & Music Connection Dayton join together present A Country Christmas, featuring Alexis Gomez (from American Idol fame) with special guests: Ashley Knapp, Chad Cremeans, & Ethan Miller. It’s going to be a great holiday evening for country fans, so get there early for a good seat! 8pm-Midnight. $7 Door. $5 Advance tickets available.
South of town, jazz fans can enjoy two sets of music with Chuck Evans at 5pm and Deron Bell Band at 8pm at Blue Note Bistro in Miamisburg. Check ahead of time for seating availability.
Up for a bit of a road trip? Enjoy music and craft beer? Head down to Cincinnati to check out Urban Artifact brewing. They are featuring one of Dayton’s best original bands, Subterranean (on at 10:30pm), on Saturday night, along with Ample Parking (from Cincinnati, on from 9-10pm). It will be a fun field trip from Dayton to visit one of Cincy’s hippest breweries! $5 at the curtain. All ages.
