Fall music is officially here, and for me it means listening to slightly darker music, especially as we move into October this weekend. Grungy, loud, and even a little scary fits the Halloween season mood perfectly. Great timing for the Metal Alliance Tour!

Friday September 29th
The 7th annual Metal Alliance Tour is making it’s way back to Dayton. This year features Overkill, Crowbar, Havok, Black Fast, and Invidia at Oddbody’s. For metal aficionados who are familiar with all the metal sub-genres, this year’s tour showcases thrash, power, and nu-metal bands. Tickets are $30 advance. $35 day of show. 6pm Doors and showtime. 18+
Excited to check out Bassel & The Supernaturals (Chicago), who combine neo-soul and funk with captivating lyrics about love, loss, and a war in Syria that has affected Bassel Almadani’s family along with millions of others. They’ll be performing with their Syrian heart and Chicago soul at Trolley Stop. Don’t miss it! $5 cover. Show starts at 9:30pm. 21+
Sounds like a fun time with local band Jellyfish Giants at South Park Tavern. They perform psychedelic blues with good vibe jams. Show starts at 10pm.
Blind Bob’s features another great night of rock’n’roll with Midnight Ghost Train, a three-piece American rock band from Topeka, Kansas touring on their new record Cypress Ave. Two local bands are also performing: Maharaja, releasing their new cd “Kali Yuga” officially Saturday night; and Slur, a new Dayton band out to make a big splash. $5 cover. 9pm. 21+
Out in Yellow Springs, enjoy the fun and fantastic stylings of Nasty Bingo at the Emporium. Music from 7-10pm during the wine and beer tasting happening there Friday night. Pretty perfect way to start off your weekend!
If that show gets ya going, head over to Peach’s Grill after for a free show of local bands starting at 10pm. You can check out YIKES A BAND, Counterfeit Madison, and Kyleen Downes. What a fun night that will be!
Saturday September 30th
On Saturday you can enjoy The Music of Prince, which is being celebrated at the Schuster Center with our own Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. For this electrifying evening, vocalist Mackenzie Green and music director Nisan Stewart join DPO to pay tribute to many of Prince’s best-known hits, including “Little Red Corvette,” “Kiss,” “When Doves Cry,” “Purple Rain,” “Raspberry Beret,” and many more. Show starts at 8pm. Tickets start at $34+
Speaking of tributes, Grateful Dead fans will be dancing to GD tribute band Arrows of Neon at Oregon Express. Special guest Stephen Buttree from Elementary Livity Project will be sitting in too! They always bring a huge smile to my face! Show 9pm. $5 cover. 21+
The Ex-Bombers, a seedy film noir pop duo from Charleston, Illinois is in town and showing off their sultry rhythms and narcotic melodies at South Park Tavern on Saturday night. Sounds intriguing! Music at 9pm.
North of town you can check out rockers Far From Eden, Next To Nowhere and This Blessed Hatred at Oscar’s Bar. A new band in the mix, so get there early to show your support! $5 at the door. 9PM show. 21+
Sunday October 1st
For those of you seeking Sunday fun, rock band Soraia (Philadelphia)is coming through Dayton in support of their new album on Wicked Cool Records. Bribing Senators, Valentino Halton, and Paige Beller are the local support for the evening of rock at Blind Bob’s. 9pm $5 cover. 21+
