I want to first thank my dear readers for coming out supporting my benefit show last weekend! That really was the Party! What a simply amazing time we all had! ICYMI, Dayton.com posted a wonderful post-party video you can view here.

Let’s keep those good vibes rolling this weekend! My top pick this weekend is the Subterranean’s debut album release party w/ Electric Orange Peel at Gilly’s Jazz on Saturday April 22nd. Doors 8pm. $5 cover.

Subterranean is one of my favorite original Dayton bands, for the simple fact that they are truly original. Their sound is unique, and extraordinarily dynamic, bouncing from moody jazz to funky jams to what borders on heavy metal. Check out and celebrate with this local band that’s already receiving national attention from this debut release!

Friday April 21st

Oh yes, my friends, it’s that time of year again! You can smell it in the air! The Yellow Cab Food Truck Rallies are back! Always a super fun time, especially because they always offer up live music along with all the yummy foods & beer! This week check out Dayton’s own rockabilly band Cherry Lee & The Hot Rod Hounds. FREE entry. Runs from 5-10pm.

One of the funkiest shows this weekend is happening at Oregon Express on Friday night. Get down with Kommunity Service, and Mac-a-Boogie & Cheese (featuring members of Macpodz and Boogie Matrix), with special guest Krunk Town Boogie.  Better bring your dancin’ shoes to this one! Doors 8pm. Music 9pm. $5 at the door. 21+

My funky friends will also be jamming over at Jimmie’s Ladder 11 with LITZ and Desmond Jones. Both of these bands are coming from out of state, so don’t miss your chance to check out these jam/funk fusion bands. 8pm. $5 cover. 21+

Another one of my Dayton faves, The Nightbeast, is at their old stomping grounds once again, Blind Bob’s Bar. Always a fantastically fun time! Bassel & The Supernaturals, Two Birds, and The Dead Licks are also performing. 9PM. $5 cover. 21+

Up north, there is a great rock show going down at Oscar’s Bar in Vandalia with The Story Changes, RIND, The Boxcar Suite, and Seth Canan. Love this line-up! Show at 9pm. $5 cover. 18+

If you’re out in Yellow Springs, or looking for an excuse to get out there, do check out Nasty Bingo at the Emporium with guest Skip Leeds. Their self described “butt-shakin’, soul quakin’ folkadelich goodness” will be the perfect way to unwind from th week. Wine/beer tasting begins at 6:30, music from 7-10.

Saturday April 22nd – Record Store Day!

This year is the 10th anniversary of Record Store Day, and Omega Music is celebrating Dayton style. For the complete details on all the goods, special events, and rules, please check out: Record Store Day 2017 at Omega Music. They ordered every title, and ordered early – so make sure you visit them or one of the other area record stores on Saturday!

Omega is teaming up with Warped Wing Brewing Company and Foodbank Dayton to bring you a special Warped Wing beer tasting at 5PM, with all proceeds going to benefit the Foodbank. They will also have a food barrel set up in the shop, and any nonperishable food item will get you 20% off used media. All nonperishable food items are appreciated, however the Foodbank is in need of peanut butter and soup this year. If you get hungry yourself, The Wicked ‘Wich of Dayton has you covered. They’ll be parked outside the shop beginning at 2:30 PM.

Best of all, they have a fantastic line-up of both local and out of town acts:
4:00 PM- Salvadore Ross
5:00 PM- GOON – DYT PUNK
6:00 PM- The Company Man
7:00 PM- The Liquid Crystal Project (feat. J Rawls)
8:00 PM- Nick Kizirnis
9:00 PM- HEXADIODE

If you’re headed to the Sugar Maple Festival in Bellbrook on Saturday, make sure you check out Todd The Fox from 4-5 p.m. This group is fantastically entertaining! FREE! All ages.

Head over to Yellow Cab for the highly-anticipated Peter Mulvey and Shrug concert. Peter Mulvey is a gifted Dayton singer/songwriter, that you do not want to miss! Shrug will be performing an opening set and will also join Peter onstage for a few numbers. In addition, the wonderful photography of Jennifer Taylor and Christopher Corn will be on display in the gallery. Wicked ‘Wich food truck will also be on hand. They’ve thought of everything! Showtime is 8:30 PM. Admission is $15 in advance, $18 at the door.

An event that is supporting Yellow Cab’s upcoming Sideshow 12 event, is a special Acoustic Fundraiser at Oregon Express. The event features Dayton rock bands ThunderTaker, McGuff & The Dumpster Fires, Freya’s Felines, and Todd The Fox performing all acoustic sets in support of Sideshow 12! I love when musicians come together to support each other. Please show them some love! Cover $5. 9:00pm. 21+

If you’re into heavy rock and metal, head over to Blind Bob’s for the Enkiridian, Matter of Planets, Iron Belly, and Zuel show. They are ready to melt faces! 9pm. $5 cover. 21+

Celebrate Earth Day with a Dance Party! Yeah! Curse of Cassandra, Echo Mecca and Electro Cult Circus are all performing their dance-worthy grooves Saturday night at Jimmie’s Ladder 11. Doors at 9, music starts at 10. $5 cover. 21+

Please don’t forget about the aforementioned Subterranean album release happening at Gilly’s. That show, or any of the late night Saturday shows also make excellent after parties to the Library’s Main Event fundraiser that’s happening downtown. It is sold out, but those of you going, it ends at 11:30pm, so keep the party rolling by seeing live music!

As always, thank you for supporting live music!

Your Dayton Music Insider,

Libby Ballengee
