The theme of this weekend’s shows has certainly got to be album releases! There are several this weekend, which is awesome! I love seeing all the new music bubbling up in our scene. Please go out and support these bands and the local stores who carry them.
Speaking of which, this Saturday September 24th is the first ever Omega Flea! Join Omega Music in the parking lot behind their store in the Oregon District for a market of local band and label merch, posters, t-shirts, records and more! Omega Music will have over 1000 records priced under $1! They’ll also have refreshments and Mike Cooley will be outside spinning all of the local labels vinyl! Free entry!
What a great way to support local vendors and music at the same time! Read on to find out about live music opportunities around the area too!
Friday September 23rd
Who doesn’t love Blues and Brews? Nasty Bingo (the band, not a peculiar version of the game) is performing a Blues evening with fantastic guest artists including Sharon Lane, Trey Stone, Rich Reuter, and many more. I’m excited for this event, knowing how incredibly talented this group is! Craft beer, and food from The Wicked ‘Wich of Dayton will be available. Doors open at 8pm at Yellow Cab Tavern, just north of the Dublin Pub. $10 admission.
Are you all familiar with The Cloverdale yet? If not – the old Vex / Pearl / Diner (depending on what era you remember) is now called The Cloverdale. It’s a music venue that’s being run by Mary Katherine of Clash, who has been a longtime event organizer in the area. Her events are epic and inventive, so I’m extremely excited to see this venue develop!
This Friday evening you can experience the “Sweet Release” event, which celebrates a trio of EPs all coming out on the same day, from Dip/Spit, Dead Tuth, and Duderus. All those bands will have CDs available, along with live performances. Yikes A Band and the Skashank Redemption are also playing in this special night of rock’n’roll mayhem! Doors at 9pm. Music at 10pm. 18+ $5 cover at the door.
In the Oregon District, check out Magnolia Supernova at Oregon Express. They are new on my radar, and I’ve heard some fantastic reviews, so be sure to check them out and report back! I’m curious myself, so you might see me there! Typically music gets going around 9:30pm, with $5 cover and 21+
At Blind Bob’s Bar there is a really interesting mix of indie / pop rock bands, including 3 Piece Suit, Nick D’ & the Believers, The Head, and The French. A few of these bands are on tour and new to me, so this is another one I’d love to hear back on. Tweet me (info below)! Show 9:30pm $5 cover.
Over at Oddbody’s Music Room, jam band fans will be stoked to see Glostik Willy and ekoostik hookah perform. GW is one of the up-and-coming regional bands in the improv rock scene, with a decidedly hard rock feel. eH is celebrating 25 years of being a band, which is an astounding accomplishment! They are beloved far and wide for their songwriting and sound, and the influence they’ve had on so many bands in this area. Day of tickets are $15. Doors 8pm. Show 9pm. 18+
North of town, check out The Sandwich, a rock band out of Nashville, performing at Oscar’s Bar, off N. Dixie in Vandalia. Local acts Cherry Lee & The Hot Rod Hound and Dark Backward are supporting this show and getting the crowd warmed up! 8pm.
New this year has been Music Connection Dayton, LLC‘s showcase called ‘The Dayton Underground Series’, which has featured curated shows in a multitude of genres. For their 6th show, they’ve put together a metal madness line-up at The Courtyard Lounge in Englewood, which includes: Letters To The Blind is a powerful, progressive metal band, Forces of Nature a highly sought after “guitar driven thrash metal” band, and Omeni is a vicious and Earth-shatteringly heavy metal act from Xenia. Day of Show Tickets are $10.21+ w/ ID. Doors at 8:30pm; Show at 9:30pm
Saturday September 24th

Over at The Trolley Stop, you can see a couple great rock bands: The Boxcar Suite and Lost Coast, with an acoustic set by Tim Prichard to kick off the evening. These Dayton and Cincinnati bands, respectively, deliver really solid, good time rock music. Just heavy enough to rock, but not so much that it’s hard to listen to, is my cup of tea! I think you’ll agree! 9:30pm music starts. Usually there is a $5 cover and 21+
The Cloverdale is hopping with album releases this weekend! Tonight is another one with a new release and performance from HEXADIODE, who specializes is dark electronica. My Latex Brain and Dark Backward are also performing, which is sweet! 9pm. $5 cover.
