The Dayton music scene is not letting March go out like a lamb this year. Instead it is roaring in this first weekend of spring with heavy hitters The Ron Holloway Band, Reverend Peyton’s Big Dam Band, and Moriah Haven’s Artist Showcase Extravaganza. Read on to find out the details on this and other exciting live music events in Dayton!
Friday March 25th
The ever-so-popular band Reverend Peyton’s Big Dam Band is back at Oddbody’s Music Room with local guests The Eric Jeradi Band and Barstool Brown and the Barstools. Doors 7pm. Show 8pm. 18+ Tickets are $15 at the door, and so worth it!
One of my favorite musicians from this year’s epic music festival Jam Cruise was saxophonist Ron Holloway. He is gracing us with his presence, along with his incredible band, at The Old Crow Bar in Middletown. Local super group Subterranean has the honor of kicking off this show. $12 at the door. 8pm.
A mix of indie goodness including The Pullouts, By Light We Loom, Seventeen Sisters, Able Danger is on the bill at Blind Bob’s. This is a really interesting, eclectic mix of bands, who will keep both the male and female fans entertained! 9pm show.
High energy jazz funk from the uber talented Dirk Quinn Band (Philadelphia) is happening tonight at the Trolley Stop. This improvisational band is definitely one to check out! 9:30pm show.
More of an acoustic/Americana feel at South Park Tavern this evening with Shady Pines, OldNews, and the Sides. That kind of music is perfect for this cozy little neighborhood spot. Enjoy!
If you’re up for an early evening in Yellow Springs, head over to the Emporium from 7-10pm. There is a really awesome benefit going on for Carl Schumacher, who has been fighting cancer. Devil’s Backbone, joined by Ben Cooper on the fiddle, will be playing vto give their dear friend and bass player the financial help he needs to keep going. They would really love your support. If not able to attend, but would like to contribute, click here for more information.
Local Yellow Springs favorites Will C & Family at The Gulch in their home town. Just down the street you can find the Gin Soaked Angels and Flowetry at Peach’s Girll. Either will be super fun, so don’t stay in tonight Yellow Springs!
Saturday March 26th
If you want to get your funk on, grab your uncle’s best polyester suit, your best girl, and head over to the 70s Costume Party Jam at Gilly’s Jazz. 8pm-Midnight. $15 tickets
Puzzle of Light is always a delight when they perform at Trolley Stop. They’ll be there again Saturday night starting at 9:30pm.
One of the most anticipated shows of the weekend is Moriah Haven’s Artist Extravaganza at Taffy’s in Eaton. Music by Tim Caudill, Jeremy & Lynne Music, Sam Stone, Georgia Goad, and Achilles Tenderloin. There will also be poetry and art on display and for sale. 7pm-12am.
Another fantastic show to attend outside of the Dayton area is the Aria Marie Foundation benefit show at The Old Crow Bar in Middletown. I was a close friend to Aria when she was a young girl, and this Foundation is one close to my heart. If you are a rock/metal fan, please go out and show your support for this show, which includes Aria’s family band Shotgun Surprise.
If you’re a rock/metal fan north of town, check out the Troy Hard Rock Showcase at the Little York Tavern in Troy. Bands include Far From Eden, The Gringo, Harlow, The Transylvania Hellhounds, and Tears of Olympus. 8pm – 2am
Monday March 28th
Last Monday night of Brett Hill’s residency at Jimmie’s Ladder 11 features the premiere of smoky post-rock duo KHONSHU, the collaborative efforts of Brett Hill and Aaron Hardy (of Moira, Roley Yuma, Sleep Fleet). No cover. 10pm-12:30am
As always, thank you for supporting live music!
