Where to Rock In 2016!

Figuring out what to do to celebrate New Year’s Eve can be one daunting task! No worries, my friends. Your Dayton Music Insider has the run down on where to see live music this holiday weekend.

Thursday, December 31st (New Year’s Eve)

New_Years_EveThe Dayton Performing Arts Alliance hosts the ultimate pre-game for New Year’s Eve, with their annual New Year’s Eve Celebration at The Schuster Center. This signature event combines the artistic excellence from the dancers at the Dayton Ballet, vocalists from the Dayton Opera and musicians from the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. A balloon drop and champagne toast top off the evening’s festivities. This event runs from 8-10 p.m. on Dec. 31, so you’ll have plenty of time to get to your next NYE destination before the ball drops!

Ready to rock? Downtown you’ll find local jam/improv band Subterranean at The Trolley Stop. Affectionately referred to as “SubT” by local fans, this up-and-coming group never fails to please the late night party crowd. Members of this four-piece are strong on their own, and together, they are dynamite! Fans are in for a real treat as this is a 3-set show! Music starts at 9:30 p.m. Cost: $10. Includes a champagne toast!

The rest of the hard-core jam band fans will surely be over at Oddbody’s Music Room with Glostik Willy, Yosemite, and the Bath Salt Zombies. All bands are performing two sets this evening, so music starts early. This is going to be a full night of rock’n’roll mayhem, in one of the best sounding rooms in the area. Doors and Music at 7 p.m. $10 18+

During 2015 music fans have celebrated the enduring 50 year legacy of the Grateful Dead, and this New Year’s Eve, the party continues! Local super group and GD tribute band The Great Northern String Band is set to perform fan favorites all evening at Jimmie’s Ladder 11. Tim Prichard from the Boxcar Suite is kicking off the evening with a special solo acoustic set starting at 10 p.m. on Dec. 31. If you enjoyed The Last Waltz tribute over Thanksgiving, this evening features many of the same musicians. Enjoy! Cost: $5 at door.

In Yellow Springs, Peach’s Grill is hosting three great indie / Americana bands: the Wonderfool at 9:30 p.m., Gaptooth Grin at 11 p.m., and Speaking Suns starts right after the ball drop!

Last but not least, in my hometown of Brookville, Evil Eye Gypsy and Todd the Fox are throwing it down at O’Riley’s Tavern. Making Brookville cool! I love it! No excuses that there is nothing to do, friends!

Reader’s Note: Your Dayton Music Insider did indeed represent Dayton proudly in the SiriusXM inaugural Jam On Fantasy Football League. Crowned the official winner this week, I beat out musicians from Umphrey’s McGee and Disco Biscuits, DJs, and fantasy experts from ESPN, NFL Films, CBS Sports, USA Today and more! Never underestimate the girl in the League! Or the sole Daytonian! Listen to my interview with SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio here.

As always, thank you for supporting the live music scene in Dayton. And Cheers to a fabulous and funky 2016!
