  • The Werk Out Music & Arts Festival starts today and runs through Saturday, August 8th. This event is in Columbus, so a bit of a cheat here, but I’m featuring it because it’s hosted by Dayton’s own jam band super stars, The Werks. The lineup also includes a host of nationally recognized jam bands, electronic, funk and bluegrass music, including: Umphrey’s McGee, Papadosio, Lettuce, EOTO, Dopapod, The Floozies, Zach Deputy, Ekoostik Hookah, The Nth Power, The Main Squeeze, Rumpke Mountain Boys, Tauk, Blue Moon Soup, Glostik Willy and more! Cost is $150 for a 3-day pass or $270 for VIP option. Please note these are online prices, and may be more at the gate. Cost of admission includes camping at Legend Valley, where the festival takes place. Let’s werk it!
  • Feeling nostalgic? Overdue on bonding time with the parents? The Beach Boys and The Temptations are teaming up in 2015 for a once in a lifetime tour, and it stops this evening at the Rose Music Center in Huber Heights. Doors at 7 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $47+. Check with the venue for ticket availability.

Friday, August 7th

Saturday, August 8th

Sunday, August 9th

  • Having a leisurely Sunday afternoon? My good friend Charlie Tipton, a wonderful local singer/songwriter, is performing a set at Jimmie’s Ladder 11 at 1 p.m. He’s soulful and talented. A great Sunday Funday diversion!
  • Riff Raff Tavern is hosting Ellie Lee & Blues Fury as part of their Summer BBQ & Blues series. The venue describes: “Ellie is a blues guitarist/singer/songwriter that fronts the band with her soulful voice, ripping guitar solos and her obvious joy in performing. Ellie’s guitar virtuosity has been compared to Carlos Santana, Albert King and Jimi Hendrix.” Wow! This show runs from 2-6 p.m. Cost: $10 advance, $12 at door.
  • Classic rock fans are in for a double dose of awesome with Peter Frampton and Cheap Trick at Rose Music Center. Tickets start at $43+. Doors at 6 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m. sharp. Check ticket availability here before you go!

  • Last but certainly not least is the show I’m most looking forward to: J. Roddy Walston & The Business at Oddbody’s, with special local guests Nightbeast and The New Old Fashioned opening. Cannot stress enough how fabulous this show is going to be! They sold out 2 straight nights in Columbus and are blazing their way across the country on a major tour. We are super lucky to host J. Roddy and the Business in Dayton! Trust me – they are quite cool. Agest 18+. 7 p.m. Cost: $15 advance, $20 DoS.

As always, thank you for supporting the live music scene in Dayton.

Note to Readers:  The information above is for August 6-12. If I don’t list a price, that’s because I’m not sure what the price is. Generally cover charges for local shows are $5. Please click the links to find out detailed information about the bands, venues and events, including start times, directions and pricing. I try to link band names with samples of their music. Always check with the venue about start times and ticket availability. As you can see, I try to promote as many shows as possible, but there will be some I miss. Keep me in the loop: @LibbyBallengee
